Nic Lyon is a PhD student in political science at Stanford University. He holds BA degrees in political science and economics from Columbia University and an MSc in African Development from the London School of Economics. Before coming to Stanford, he worked at IDinsight in Nairobi, Kenya. Nic’s current work focuses on social and political change, the management of diversity, and the role of international actors in sub-Saharan Africa. In particular, his work focuses on the inclusion of marginalized populations – such as members of the LGBT+ community – that have become politically salient on the continent in recent decades. This work draws on a variety of methods, including text analysis, survey experiments, and lab-in-the-field experiments. He has conducted surveys in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.
